DOING THE STUFF – ALL THE DETAILS
As always there is a packed program this year at DTI. There are all the usual ingredients; worship, seminars, teaching and time and space to meet with God, loads of fun and games and entertainment too. But this year we’re adding something special for a few of hours on the Saturday afternoon called ‘Doing the stuff’.
Now this is all a bit new to DTI so we’ll try and give you up-to-date information on this page and try and answer any questions you might have below. If though there is anything you’re not sure about then please feel free to email us.
Question 1 – What is DOING THE STUFF?
The theme this year is ‘doing the stuff’ which means everyone who comes will have the option for a few hours on the Saturday to get involved in a ‘blessing the community’ activity. These are short practical projects in the surrounding area, which aim to show God’s love to people in fun and creative ways. We hope that for some people this will be a chance to try new things and maybe carry it on when they get home!
We have got a team of people working on exactly how ‘doing the stuff’ is going to look, the health and safety, risk assessments, consent forms and logistics etc. Obviously doing the stuff on the Saturday afternoon will be optional and there will be no pressure to get involved, but our hope is that many of the young people at DTI will get excited about this opportunity. And together we can look at what it means to love others and then step out and try and do it!
Some of the minor details may change but hopefully there are a few answers below to some of the questions you might have:
Question 2 – Is this going to dramatically change the DTI I know and love?
No. Doing the stuff is only going to happen for a few hours on the Saturday afternoon and it will be optional! Our hope though is that most of the young people do want to get involved as it will be really fun! All of the usual DTI favorites will still be happening including Total Wipeout, DTI Champions League Football, Wii, workshops and much more. After-hours, the evening entertainment is back again! For 2012 we have also upgraded the cafe to include fresh pancakes in addition to the traditional range of tuck and hot chocolate mountains – yum!
Question 3 – I’m a bit new to this, so will it involve preaching at people on the street?
NO WAY!!! The idea of these projects is to do simple things that will be a blessing to others – some of them will be practical – others will be a simple good deed. We don’t want to do anything that people are likely to find irritating, uncomfortable or confrontational – we just want to share God’s love in fun and creative ways!!
Question 4 – Who will be in charge of each project?
Each project will have a team leader from DTI to run the project and youth leaders from all the vineyard churches will tag along to oversee the involvement of the young people and make sure they’re safe. For every 6 young people that sign up to each project they have to get a youth leader (probably from their group) to sign up too. Although if the ratios aren’t quite working there will be extra youth team from DTI on standby to help out.
Question 5 – Do I need a consent form for doing the stuff?
Yes – you will be able to download one from this page or get one from your youth leader (we are currently still making them!)
Question 6 – What about health and safety?
Whilst we want to make it as easy as possible to get involved, the welfare and safety of everyone involved is paramount so we’re taking health and safety seriously. We’ve got a team of people who have experience in organizing these kind of projects doing all the planning and making sure risks are properly assessed and that we have a plan for each event that will ensure its as safe as possible.
Question 7 – How will we get to the projects?
We are currently looking at hiring mini buses/ coaches and planning routes that drops the different groups of young people off and picks them up.
Question 8 – How many people can do this?
We will allocate a fixed number of places for each project. There will be a sign up sheet at DTI and it will work on a first come, first served basis. We need to do this for numerous reasons (health and safety etc).
Question 9 – Does it matter that I haven’t yet made a decision to follow Jesus?
No – this is open to anyone who comes to DTI. We are basically just going to be doing stuff that is nice to people in the local area. You will be with youth leaders and led by a team leader/s who have done this kind of thing before.
Question 10 – Will it cost me anything extra?
No – You will not need any money to take part in doing the stuff.
Question 11 – Will I need to bring anything extra with me to do it?
If you need anything extra it will be provided on day.
Question 12 – Will I need to wear different clothes?
No – although you will need suitable clothing for walking around. Hopefully it will be a nice sunny day but it would be best to come prepared!
